Book Club
Our popular Evesham Festival of Words BOOK CLUB, led by local author and creative writing tutor, Helen Yendall is held on the first Tuesday evening of each month at Ecgwin’s Club in central Evesham.
It’s a friendly group that’s been meeting since 2020 (and survived a year of Zoom meetings during that time!). The emphasis is very much on reading for fun and enjoyment.
At the beginning of the year, members are invited to put forward two book choices (from a particular genre, if they like) and the rest of the group votes between those two books. The resulting ‘reading list’ keeps us going for several months and allows members to read a couple of months ahead, if they so wish.
We mostly read fiction but over the years we’ve also read travel books, autobiography and memoir, non-fiction and short stories.
After what is usually a lively discussion, everyone gives the book a score out of 10, which helps us keep track of our favourites – and least favourites – both for that year and overall.
Our current top five books since the Book Club began are, in order: Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers, A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson – in joint second place with The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi, The Lost Man by Jane Harper and Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca.
