About Evesham

An Historic Riverside Market Town

About Evesham

About Evesham!

Surrounded by beautiful Worcestershire countryside and located in a curve of the River Avon between Stratford-on-Avon and Tewkesbury, Evesham is known as a ‘small town with a big heart.’

Evesham enjoys a rich and colourful history. Visit the Almonry Museum in the town’s heritage quarter to learn more about Evesham Abbey. Admire the remaining Bell Tower and enjoy the beautiful, award-winning Abbey Park and stunning riverside location.

Stroll through the town’s Market Square to admire the intricate sculpture of the fabled swineherd Eof, whose vision of the Virgin Mary supposedly led to the building of Evesham Abbey. Or take a short walk from the town centre to the site of the Battle of Evesham 1265, where Prince Edward completely overwhelmed the troops of Simon de Montfort.  You might like to take the centuries-old chain ferry, used by the monks from the Abbey.

For something different, track down the unique Evesham Festival of Words features in the town. Head to Hampton Ferry to sit on our beautiful book benches, or take a book from our own Little Free Library. In Abbey Park you can read the winning poems from our competition, What Makes Evesham Special?
