Enjoy a classic Raphael’s Afternoon Tea (freshly baked scone with clotted cream and jam; finger sandwiches and assorted sweet treats) in the company of Kath Ryan, also known as ‘The Cake Lady’.

For more than ten years Kath has been bringing home comforts to injured soldiers. It began when she was visiting her sister in hospital in Birmingham and took some home-made cakes to cheer her up. Kath’s sister shared them with injured soldiers in the hospital. The cakes went down well and the soldiers were soon looking forward to Kath’s deliveries.

Not long after, Cakes 4 Casualties was born, with Kath baking every week for injured troops in Selly Oak Hospital and continuing when they left hospital for rehabilitation.

Kath not only buys the ingredients and bakes the cakes she also spends precious time with ‘her boys’. As she says, “a cake and a cuddle go a long way.”
